The Venue
Mdina was Malta's capital for the better part of two thousand years, and it has been called the Silent City since the day the capital moved to Valletta and left it to its walls. The Xara Palace is the only hotel inside those walls: a seventeenth-century aristocratic palazzo, restored by the Zammit Tabona family and hung with their own collection of period paintings and antiques. Seventeen rooms, a vaulted piano nobile, an inner atrium courtyard, and a loggia terrace built into the ramparts with the island laid out below it. Couples take the whole palace — which means the Silent City is, for one night, more or less yours.
